Have you ever notarized a document before? If not, you might be wondering what it is and how to notarize a document.

Notarizing a document is the act of getting an impartial notary public to verify that the person signing it knows who they are, understands what they are signing, and has voluntarily signed the document. The co-signer serves as the collateral between the tenant and the landlord. If the tenant refuses to pay rent the guarantor/co-signer will be held liable for the rest of the rent. This post will tell you the 4 steps to notarizing a document, so you can get approved for a real estate property even faster!

  1. Google local and online notaries or visit your bank

We recommend starting your search for a notary public on Google or with your bank. Be prepared to schedule an appointment. Besides banks, supermarkets such as Stop and Shop may have a notary or your local post office.

For online notaries, the first step is to upload a pdf or take a picture of the document and confirm your identity with a picture of your ID. After verifying your identity you will be placed on a secure video call where you can talk more to the notary and get your document notarized. It’s really that easy. Our favorite service is Notarize, check them out here.

2. Once notarized, scan the document and send over to our team

After visiting the notary public, take a picture or scan the document with the notary seal and send it over to our team. Some landlords may also require you mailing over the hard copy

3. Sit back and relax
